AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
Last evening, on 4bc Reserve, another very successful sports meeting was conducted under the* auspices. of the G.A.A. and H.C.
Bcspite the" mifstvoimilj'lc* weather conditions prevailing, competition was of the keenest, and a good number assembled to witness the events. limes registered lor the events were below those of lust year, due to the sodden state oi the track and at strong southerly wind.
All arrangements for the meeting were very complete, and the track presented a. very finished appearance. I'lie first event, 100 yards handicap, was commented promptly at 5.15 p.m., and was run in two heats, resulting a.s follows:
Ist heat: Caution 1. L’altridge 2, Sulc’iiTfe 3. Time, 10 4-ssec. 2nd heat: Harry 1, H. Martin 2, J. Martin, 3. Time, 10 4-ssec. Final: Caul ton 1, Barry 2, H. Martin 3. .Time, 10 4-ssec.
The, next event, the one-mile cycle handicap, also drew another big field, and a. very fast and, interesting race .resulted. In the final lap tho scratch men, who had regained Impelled throughout, made very determined efforts to overhaul (lie Senders,, hilt without avail. .The finish was ultinlatoly fonight out between K. Algip, 11. Swan, and Boyle, n great hat Ile being witnessed in the home straight. E, Algie just gained the judge’s decision by half ft wheel from Boyle, with H. Swan in third place, a length away. Time 2min. 53 1-ssec.
The officials responsible for tbp conduct of the meeting were : Judges, Messrs J. J. Martin, F. Maher, A. Inurem; time-keepers, Messrs Mason and Swift; marksmen, .Messrs Boots and Fsquilnnt; starter, Mr E. B, Houlahan.
