Replying to the toast to his health aboard the Remuera at Wellington, Captain Bone, marine -superintendent for the N.Z. Shipping Company, staled that when Mr. Massey, as a young lad, not long left school, was coming out with them, be (the speaker), had done his best- to convince him that there was nothing like a life on the ocean wave, but had been unsuccessful. He shuddered’ to think what the fate of New Zealand would have been at any time during the past 20 years if they had succeeded in making a sailor of Mr. Massey. (Laughter.)
