MEMORANDA.

‘"God’s X-ray” will. be the subject of Mr. 11. Toogood’s address, at the Gospel Service, at the'Church of Christ, Roebuck road, to-morrow evening.

The Labor Representation Committee are holding their euchre party and dance in the Liberty Hall on Tuesday evening, sth inst., at • 8. Card players and dancers are assured of a pleasant evening. The Rev. F. A. Crawshaw will preach at the Tabernacle at 11 a.m. to-morrow, on “Longsuffering and Gentleness,” and will conduct the special monthly evangelistic service in the evening, *commencing with a Community song service at 6.30 p.m.

The Rev. Geo. Frost conducts both services to-morrow in the Bright street church. In the morning the bi-monthly communion service will be held. In thq evening the subject of the address is: “Sins of Speech.” The anthem will he: “There is a Green Hill Far Away.” Hadwen’s poultry farm has an announcement on page one of this ftsue relative to settings of eggs, day-old chicks and trios. The quality of the stock is proved, by 'the- fact- that at the rdeent poultry Show birds exhibited secured a record of 23 prizes and a. special prize for best duck in show.

The box plan for the Gisborne School concerts on Thursday arid Friday next is rapidly filling up. The concerts are looked upon as quite an annual event by both parents and children, and exceptional Interest is being taken in the performances this year. At a recent meeting of the school committee it- was decided that no sweets be handed' up to the children during the performance or after, in view of Dr. Clarlc’s recent strong comment on the subject of giving sweets tt> children.

The cabaret held in Le Grand lounge last evening was one- of the most ssccessful yet conducted. There was a. large attendance, and the excellent floor and good* music made dancing a, pleasure. While the catering was of the usual high older; A -feature of the function was the imWelty arid artistry of the decorations which aroused much favorable comment. So successful was the function last night that the management decided to accede to an almost- unanimous request to repeat the cabaret to-night. - To-morrow evening the Rev. James Ait-ken will commence a short- series of monthly lectures on “Heroes of the Early Church.” The New -Testament lias familiarised/us with' the. story of the church during the- first century of our era, but its subsequent history is less well known. It is Mr Aitken’s intention to discuss some of the phases of the church’s experience during the second and' third centuries (100-300 A.D.) and to sketch the life story of some of the early fathers*. The subject- of to-morrow evening’s lecture will be Justin Martyr. A combined’ meeting of Holy Trinity Ladies’ Guild, vestrymen's ‘ wives and Girls’ Club was held in the Parish Hull yesterday afternoon. Matters in connection with a sale of work and exhibition of flbwrrs, to be held in November, were discussed. The following ladies were ■elected as a committee, with power to add : Mesdames Packe, deLautour, Wroy Nolan, Armstrong, Williams, Hamilton Jones, Shorter and GofFc, and Misses Booth, Crawford, Davies and Brook eTavlor. Different stalls were discussed and helpers for same were to he asked, A further meeting will take place next week.
