GOLF TOURNAMENT.

POVERTY BAY WINS FOURSOME

ALL-SQUARE IN TWO-BALL GAME

The golf tournament between representatives of the Gisbofne and Napier Golf Clubs was continued on the Poverty Bay golf links yesterday afternoon, when a tw.o-ball game was played. In the morning the Gisborne men won the four-ball match by six games to one, while in the afternoon they were all square with the Napier players. A feature of the day’s play was the driving of Mr. Kapi Tareha, the leading Napier player. Oh the 18th, he drove a. distance of 352 yards, creating a record for the Poverty Bay links. The best round of the afternoon was done by the club captain, Mr. J. Barns-Graham. who in his match with Mr. E. C. Smith returned a card of 81. He did the 16th hole in bogey or under. A good deal of interest centred round the games, over 100 people following tho players round the links. The results of afternoon’s games were as follows, the names of the Gisborne men being given first: — G. M. Dodgshun lost to Kapi Tareha. G. W. Willock beat H. E. Troutbeck. N. H. Bull lost, to F. C. Fryer. J. Barns-Graham beat E. O’. Smith. R. Keiha lost to J. B. Hogan. R. J. Clark lost to F. V. Kettle. L. Balfour beat R. W'. Dalgleish. R. Willock beat J. H. Smith. G. Kelly lost to H. G. Davies. E. M. Hutchinson jost to N. Kettle. J. N. Bullard halved with L. If. Height on. * C. H. Wells heat M. R. Grant. J. H. Bull beat L. S. McCluvg. S. A. Cover lost, to W. Hindmarsh. E. Adair lost to C. H, Kerr, H, Clay beat A. E. La wry. A. Stock beat H. Steele.

At the conclusion of the day’s play, he captain of the local team proposed the health of the visitors, referring to he happy engendered by nter-club matches.

Mr. N. Kettle, captain of the Napier players, responded, thanking the local club for.its hospitality. He then called for three cheers for thei ladies of the local club, who supplied a dainty lunch for the players. The cheers were heartily given. ■ t-
