PARIS, July 16.—The boxers in the Olympic games had a rough deal. They spent all day yesterday goiiig backwards mid forwards trvirig to find dressing' rooms and the contest times, and in weighing. They were not accompanied. Purdy (New Zealand) thought the official told him he was overweight. He went and had an iminecessary Turkish bath, and thus weakened himself. Hay Jones, of Geelong, Waited from 7 o'clock till midnight without food for his contest with an American middleweight, lie lost, by a narrow margin through weakening in the last, round, after having the American down in the second round for the count of four. Purdy fought a French lightweight, and there wfire two French judges. < It: was a bad decision when the contest was given against him. Mr J. IT. Douglas, the well-known English patron of boxing, and father of J. AA r . IT. T. Douglas, the cricketer, speaking to Purdy, said: “Hard luck, boy. You -won all right.”
