AN IMPORTANT ALTERATION.
IN DEEDS' DISTRICT BOUNDARIES. WILL BENEFIT GISBORNE. Thanks to the insistent representations made by the Gisborne 'Chamber of Commerce, the boundaries of the Poverty Bay Deeds Registration district have been made to coincide#with those of the Gisborne Land District. The alteration will remove a number of outstanding anomalies, and will greatly benefit the business people of the town. The Chamber is to he congratulated on the success of its efforts, and all will wish it a similar success in its endeavours to have the boundries of the Gisborne Land district altered to conform with' tho needs of the district.
Prior to the ( present change the Poverty Bay deeds registration district embraced only a little more than half tlie land contained in the Gisborne Land district. This brought about serious and striking anomalies which have at last been removed. Although land just beyond Motu. was in the Gisborne Land district, it was in the Auckland deeds registration district. This was also the case with land at Cape Runaway, arid in other places which would have been more easily worked from. Gisborne. This meant that- all work in connection with land tranfer in these places went to Auckland.
Opotiki is now included in the Gisborne district, and land transfer business from that area wifi now be transacted iu‘ Gisborne. Tho advantages accruing to the town will be readily apparent to the observer. The registrations cl all land deals in the enlarged district will be effected in Gisborne. This will mean that the purchase money for the properties will he paid over here, and loeai businesses will derive benefit from the increased amount of money circulating locallv. Tli e local solicitors will also benefit- as the work from the whole area will come to them instead of going to, Auckland.
The new' districj should prove very much easier to work than was the old one. and Gisborne will reap the benefit from being the headquarters of a larger and more important district than before.
