AMATEUR ATHLETIC CLUB.
HARRIER SEASON OPENS. Yesterday afternoon at the Oval the harrier season was opened by Mr. 11. F. Forster, president of the Amateur Athletic Club. There wais a good attendance of runners, and the pack started out in the charge 6f Mr. G. Brown, the club captain. 'Moist of ithe runners showed good form and! in a sihorb half-mile run home W. Ingram came firsb with L. Gray and J. Mercer close behind. In opening the season Mr. Forster apologised for the absehce of Mi". Mason, chairman of the club, and conveyed the good wishes of the latter for a successful season. Mr. Forster expressed his pleasure ait seeing such a lairge turn out, and complimented the club on its efforts to promote cross-country running, a. form of exercise within the reacn of everyone. Ha wished the club every success ,ih the coming year.. The vice-president of the Club, Mr. T. R. Gordon, in the course of a few remarks, congratulated the club on its previous successes and wished it every success in the future. Next Thursday, at 2.30 p.m., a paper chase will be hold, and ail athletes are. invited to take part in the race, which promises to bo a very interesting one.
