FIRST ANNUAL MEETING

ELECTION OF OFFICERS

The first annual meeting of the Gisborne Amateur Operatic Society was held last evening, Mr J. A. Nicol presiding over a small attendance.

The report of the past season’s operation and the balance-sheet of the festival were adopted without discussion. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows : —Patrons, Messrs W. D. Lysnar, M.P., K. S. Williams, M.P., and F. Hall; vice-presidents, Messrs W. F. Clederwall, W. It. Barker, A. 11. Wallis, IT. Kenway, E. 11. Mann and E. C. Levvev, S.M.; president, Mr J. S.. Wauchop; musical director, Mr M. L. Foster; stage manager, Mr A. Zachariah ; treasurer, Mr C. G. Bayliss; secretary, Mr W. Samson ; auditor, Mr P. Hockley ; pianist, Mrs. M. L. Foster; committee, Messrs 0. Adair, I. Mirfield, V. 0. Havre, W. J. Sinclair, W. Bignell, W. Mitchell and J. Chrisp.

Subsequently a meeting of the newlyappointed committee was held, and a general discussion arose as to the opera to be staged this season. While nothing definite was decided “Our Miss Gibbs” met with general approval. A very successful season was anticipated, and it was intimated that plenty of talent would he available.
