A prisoner named Kenneth Armstrong, serving a. sentence at Waikeria. reformatory, escaped on Tuesday night, and was recaptured this, morning, several miles away, in Mniibi district, and was returned to tile institution. A report is current that a well-planned attempt to manufacture house-breaking implements at Hie prison smithy was made by Armstrong and a fellow prisoner named ( has. Fluty, recently discharged from the institution. The latter wont to Christchurch and was arrested there a few days ago, charged with theft of prison property, and remanded (o Te Avamnfu. A third parly named Horace Coomhridgo, employed as a share, milkqr on a farm near the instil lit ion, alleged to he concerned in Ihe scheme, was arrested and charged with complicity, and was remanded unlil Wednesday next.
