ACCOUNTANT STUDENTS' DEBATE
HAWKE'S BAY v. GISBORNE. WON BY HAWKED BAY TEAM. Before a very large audience last evening the inter-society debate held at Napier between the Gisborno Accountant Students' Society and thai Hawke's Bay Society resulted in a win for the Hawke's Bay students/; The Gisborne Society 'was represented by Messrs M. R. Fry (leader), L. Albwmt and C. Home. The Hawke's Bay representatives were Messrs F, A. Uunn (leader), H. Elliott and J. A. Brown. The Bubjeet debated, "That the establishment of a State bank would be. in tbo interests of this Dominion," ' was heartily contested, the local team taking the affirmative of the debatie. The planks put forward by both teams followed the usual orthodox principles for 1 and against the argument, although quite**, novel feature was stressed by Gisborne for the Statio to incorporate in its policy of banking the embracement of domestic currency. » The rules of debate were that each speaker was allowed tenmimUies in which to expound his view, the leader retaining the five minute right of reply. Mr. J. Blair, barrister and solicitor, of Napier, acted in the capacity of judge and the following points were allotted to members of the respective teams:— Local team: Fry 44, Albreoht 43, Homo 53, leader's reply 52, combination 25, total 217.
Hawke's Bay team. Dunn 40, Elliott 60, Brown 48, leader's reply 50, combination 50, total 238. At the.; conclusion of the debate the handsome challenge cup donated by Mr. W. McOitflccdi wag presented to the winning tenm.
