MANGAPAPA TOWN BOARD.
The) adjourned monthly meeting of the Mangapapa Town Board was held last evening. Present: Messrs W. J. McCliskie (chairman), K. A. Bull, H. Holmes, 11. D. Humphries, W. Stubbings, and J. H. Hall. The Cook Hospital Board advised that the levy payable by the Town Board was £345 10s 9d.—Received.
In regard' to the petitions for tho establishment of .an Electric Power Board district, the Gisborne Borongh Council notified that their solicitors had advised that the original petition would bo acceptable to the Government, and that the Town Board might now proceed with tho preparation of the supplementary petition for its district. As recently decided, tho Council had altered the representation in the original petition to three and: four respectively.—lt was decided to refer the matter to the Board's solicitors.
The question of the quality of the material used by the Restar Co. on Ormond Road was discussed by members present. Eventually the chairman moved that the Restar Co. bo written to*, notifying them that it was not up to the Board's requirements, and did! not favorably compare with the sample- strip put down.—The motion was carried unanimously.
The building inspector reported that lie had' had no faulti to find! with tho buildings under construction. The Board granted permits' for one building, £BSO, two for alterations at £BO and £7O respectively, and two for electric light. Tho impounding.s for the month totalled 4 horses and l 10 cattle. —It was decided to notify the poundkeeper that information regarding wandering animals should bo laid not later than seven days after the animals were impounded. Itl was decided' to call tenders for metalling 70 yard's of Hospital Road with river shingle. Mr. Holmes gave notice of motion that at the next meeting of the Board ho would move that a by-law bo prepared, limiting- tho speed of motor traffic on Ormond Road to 20 miles per hour. The! question of the securing recreation grounds was mentioned. It was decided to write to the Minister of Finance as to the possibility of obtaining a Government subsidy for the purchase of such grounds. Accounts amounting to £2586 were passed for payment. - • On the motion of Mr. Hall, seconded by Mr. Holmes, it) was* decided to protest to the Minister of Internal Affairs against the residents of Mangapapa, a residential area, being grouped in. the Cook County for the purposes of the Harbor Board elections.
