The police are energetically endeavoring to clear ,the city of undesirable foreigners. They recently surrounded a bijj dancing hall and took 200 revellers to the police station for identity; also raided a cafe used for gambling, where eight foreigners were arrested. Meanwhile the police investigations into the career of Warren and his associates continues. The Daily Express says the revelations suggest that Warren, with the super-confidence of a trickster with the world as his wheel, was living in princely style at Nice. He announced that he was interested in diamond mines in South Africa. A wealthy Englishman was staying at the same hotel. Warren introduced the Englishman to a confederate, described as an American oil king. Tho three decided to try their luck at the tables at Monte Carlo. When they reached tho Casino they met a third confederate, introduced as tho biggest bookmaker in America. Tho Englishman agreed to join Warren and the oil king in a betting deal. At the end of tho day! the trio had . won £170.000 from the supposed bookmaker. When the question of payment was discussed Warren explained that the club to which the bookmaker belonged would not pay until the trio gave cover to show they were men of substance and likely to bet again. Warren added : "Don't you worry, I will soon establish confidence." Ho pulled out a wad of notes. The Englishman, however, preferred to pay his share towards establishing confidence. He did so to the extent of £15,000. Soon after he was recalled to England, where he received a telegram from Warren, saying he had had bad luck and asking for another £BOOO, when he would bo able to draw the £170,000. The Englishman finally gave £23.000, but is still waiting for his share of the £170,000.
