HANGAROA DOG TRIALS.
The Hangaroa Dog Trial Club concluded, their (Seventh annual meeting on Mr. S. E. Gillingham's property, Waerenga-o-kuri, kindly lent for the occasion, on Saturday.' The unfavorable weather was not conducive to a large attendance, bub there was a fair representation of settlers of the district. A chilling wind 1 was blojwhig, making) conditions very xmpleasant for all. The entries throughout) the trials were good, and: the competitors entered into their work keenly. The work of the judge, Mr. E. Bilham, of Patutahi, was the subject of much favorable comment, the awards being considered eminently satisfactoay. The secretary, Mr. H. E. Harris, was in nc small degree, responsible for the success' of the meeting, which arouses much keenness among shepherds and 1 station owners. The champion cup, presented by Mr. J. Or, was* won. by J. Roach."Two events were run off on Saturday, the zig-zag huntaway* and' the two-dog event. The zig-zag huntaway resultedl: S. E. Gillingham's Fleet 1, D. Doddis Hough 2, J. Roach's Flo 3, H. Morice's York 4.
' The two-dog event resulted.: L. Mackintosh's Mick and Ginger 1, H. Harris'' Glen and' Skip 2, F. Harris' 'Darkle and' Scott 3, J. Roach's Mosa and Jack 4. Special prizes won in connection with the different events were, awarded as under: — '
Ormomd's Motors, for nosiest huntaway :H. Morice. Nelson. Bros.' trophy for best style of huntaway : H. Harris*' Glen. T. J. Harris' trophy for best team 61 three flogs: J. Roach. Common, Shelton and C'o.'s trophy for best stylo of 'leading dog : L. Woodward. F. j'eune's trophy for youngest shepherd scoring most points at the trials: D. Doddl.
Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.'s trophy for fastest, heat: W. Atkins. ■ Primrose and! Leslie's trophy, for best: working man on the committee: A. Ricrsc. As a wind'-np to ihe trials a dtooe was held in Mr. CillinghamY. wool shed in (lie evening, Itho building being comfortably filled. " Residents from all parts of the surrounding district were present, and a mem' time was spoilt by all.
