AMERICA AND JAPAN.
LANSING-ISIITI AGREEMENT.
[Elec. Tel.. Copj right—United Press Assn.J (Australian and N z Garde Association.! WASHINGTON, March 31.
Neither the State Department nor the Japanese Embassy has issued a statement regarding tire cancellation- of the Lansing-Ishii agreement, thus details of the abrogation aro not forthcoming. While it is not known to what extent Chinese protest? influenced the decision, it is understood Mr Harding regarded cancellation of the agreement as necessary to- round off the work of the Arms Conference because it was suspiciously regarded by other Powers, despite the Ning Power, pact, while also -affording Chii#ge radicals with ground for argument that the open door was impossible so long as special interests were acknowledged. It is believed (he delay in reaching accord between America and Japan is due to the latter’s internal political situation. Formal explanations for abrogation of agreement are expected shortly simultaneously at Washington and Tokio.
