UAWA COUNTY COUNCIL

At (he ordinary meeting of the Uawa County Council on April 8, there were present : Os. E. B. Boland (chairman). 1). IJ. Hawkins, F. Hutchinson, J. A. Moore, J. McNeil, J. S. Pater soil, and C. E. Smith.

The N.Z. Farmers’ Union, Poverty Ray branch, wrote in connection with die subject ot protection of the district front entile tick, enclosing copy of a letter from that union to the Cook County Council, hoping that close lookout for tick-infected cattle is being kept. While not- being so good and sale a site as present bridge site, tlie proposed line would be a considerable improvement to load, but. a considerable amount of protection would have to be undertaken to ensure safety of proposed bridge as. formation of ground adjacent is of a nibble nature and would be liable to erosion during flood; however, with proper protection a. stable site could be secured.

The matter of plans and specifications with estimates for Stallion creek bridge, on (lie new site approved! by the full Council, was discussed. It was resolved to proceed with the bridge on the new site.

Direction was given to the engineer to prepare plans, specifications, and estimates i'or shed required on section 15, block VI., Buckley town. Tt was resolved that it be an instruction to the engineer to prepare plans for expenditure of grant moneys appearin'; on tho list of appropriations for Tulnmo? road and forward same to the distriet engineer at once.

Tlio matter of renewal of Mangakino bridge was brought forward by Cr. Paterson, and after consideration it was resolved that -it, be an instruction to the clerk to communicate with Mr George Fitzgerald, explaining the Cottneir.s position with reference to this bridge. The. engineer was directed to supply the Takapatt surfacemen with a snnall grader at the earliest possible date. Cr. Smith gave notice that he would move, at- (ho May meeting of the Council, to the effect, that- Forster .street, from its intersection with the main East Const, road to the cemetery, he included in the main roads of the comity. Accounts amounting to £2514 11s Id were passed for payment.
