The sloop Laburnum, which is to he attached to the Nov Zealand squadron, arrived at Port Fitzroy on Saturday, and is expected here about Friday. As the outcome of recent increases in Government valuations, a meeting of city property owners decided to form a Property Owners' Association, and a committee was appointed to confer with the Chamber of Commerce on the action to be taken. It was decided to prepare a memorial to the Valuer-General, protesting against the valuations and the methods of assessment. Norman Steward Ward (13) was committed for sentence on two charges ot breaking and entering shops. Alfred Hintoti (38) was committed for sentence on two charges of forgery and uttering cheques. A youth, Andrew Peter Jen«on was committed for sentence for stealing a post office bank deposit book and forging the name of the depositor for £l2 WELLINGTON, last night. Interviewed regarding the reported abandonment of the overseas settlement scheme by ex-service men and others, Mr Massev said: "I know nothing more than "has already appeared m the papers. The Government has received no special advice. I suppose it will affect New Zealand as well as the other Dominions. When I left England, it was' understood the scheme would be continued as far as New Zealand was concerned till probably December.
