Vvi'.X.LfiNGi’UN, this day. The band contest opened to-day, 27 bands, competing. They marched through the city this afternoon, and were given a civic reception on the Basin Reserve, in perfect weather. This morning’s contests resulted: G trombone.—F. E. Gumming (Wellington Watersiders) 86 points, 1; 1. Holdaway (Nelson Garrison) 81 points, 2; C. Handley (4th Wellington Regiment, New Plymouth) 80 points, 3. K' flat cornet solo: W. Cooper (Woolston) 96 points, 1; H. W. Itobie (Wellington Watersiders) 89 points 2; J. Harding (M’arton Municipal) 88 points, 3:
