An investigation of the recent outbreak in the Chaurichaura-Gorakhapur district' shows that the murders and burning of bodies of police were carried out with the greatest brutality. The total murdered comprised two sub-inspec-tors, one head constable, fifteen constables, four watchmen, and a servant. Two dead rioters were found.
An entire block of buildings is a mass of ruins.

In reply to Gandhi’s protests, the Government announces its intention to rigorously pursue the declared policy of dispersing unlawful assemblies by force.
