Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. Swimming with a strong double overarm stroke throughout, Miss Gladys Nutall, of Hawke's Bay, to-day won the first contest for the Annette Kellerman Cup. Thousands of people enthusiastically acclaimed the winner as she left the water, showing very little effects after her long swim. J. Enwright (Auckland) swam strongly into second place, and L. Hill (Canterbury), who started from scratch, 44 minutes behind the limit girl, was a good third. Twenty-four of New Zealand's best long-distance swimmers' took part in the race, which was for a cup . donated by Annette Kellerman for competition by men and women over a harbor course of three miles. The weather conditions wero ideal, the water being smooth and the air as warm as could be desired. The race look 2 hours 3 minutes 57 seconds to complete. The times of the placed competitors* were: Nutall lhr. 53min. 57sec, Enwright lhr. 37min. 4sec, Hill lhr. 30min. 47 2-ssec. Hill established the fastest time. Interviewed after the race, Miss Nutall said 1 : "I felt just a little queer over the first mile, but after that 1 was very confident. It was my first harbor race, my previous longest swim being a mile and a-half. I have been training for this event for a month."
