A correspondent in the Herald urges that if tho departure of mail steamers for New Zealand could be delayed a few hours it would be of grout advantage lo business people. He points out that under the present arrangements mails for steamers departing on Thursday forenoon close iit 5 p.m. on Wednesday, 17 hours before the hour of departure, while in other States mails close a day earlier on account of, the steamer being timed lo leave before tbe arrival of the Melbourne and Brisbane expresses.
