GISBORNE POST OFFICE.

PLANS ALMOST COMPLETE. Iff a communication to the Chambers 6f Commerce received at yesterday's meeting of that body, the PostmasterGeneral (Hon. J. O." Coates),) replying to the Chamber’s representations with regard to the Gisborne 1 Post Office, stated 'that lie had enquired into the ftosition. He had found that the plans for the new post office were almost complete, the estimated, cost of the building being about £20,000. In respect to the request of the Chamber that the work of construction should be proceeded with immediately, the PostmasterGeneral explained that this was a most inopportune time for undertaking- such a work, on account of the shortage of material and labor. Further, the business of the Postal and Telegraphic Deparments must be continued during the progress of the alterations and additions and until the material could be assembled on the spot, the work- would be done very., slowly.,-;.consequently inconveniencing' the post office business to an unjustifiable extent; The “chairman (Mn T.
