Ihe Rector reported as follows for February - , School re-opCned on Eebruarv Till with with an attendance of 292 'in the secondary department, an advance of 24 on -the best previous' figures. This attendance entitles tlio school, under the regulations issued*last. December, to two extra teachers, one of C gradde and one of B grade. Miss Jean Stewart, AT.A,, has been appointed to tlio C position, and applications for the B position have been invited, Also Air AV, I*. Dunpliy, B• A;, lias been promoted from (lie D grade to the C grade. Air T. R, Vernon resigned at the end of last year in order to complete his university work and Air T. P. Grist (of King’s College, Auckland) lias been appointed in his place Owing to the absence of Miss Chaffey and Air Duiiphy during the first week of the term the staffing of the school was quite inadequate, but I was fortunate in securing the services of two ex-pupils of the school, Air E. Cricket : Mr. McMahon lias very generously consented to coach the first XI. on Thursday afternoons. The school has eleven eleveuts and each team has at least one match per week. A new matting is required for the cement wicket at the school. Swimming: It is proposed to hold the annual swimming sports on Friday afternoon next. School Honors: University entrance scholarships, 2 (sth and lOtli places); higher leaving certificates, 5; matriculation and allied exams., 10; partial passes in above exam., '6; senior national scholarships, 5; Public Service entrance, 22; senior free places; 55; junior free places, 6; junior free places extended,.4; SL AM. exam., 26.
