HYDRO-ELECTRIC SCHEME.

SURVEY OF TRANSMISSION LINE COMPLETE. Mr A. R. Entrican lias just completed the survey of the' transmission line from the site of the headworks at Waikaremoana to the northern boundary of tho borough, the total distance of 31 miles having been reduced by straightening to 27 miles. Generally speaking the line follows the road on the upper sido, except that it crosses Ardkecn a good distance from the road, and also crosses the Waiau once or twice. The construction work, lie says, is not likely to cause any difficulty, and subject to the due date delivery of the Government plant, he saw no reason why the line should not be in working order by May, 1922. Tho Government are getting busy with improving the road, and expect soon to have 150 men ori the job. Farmers, ho says, will he able lo take current direct for all purposes through pole transformers, while the line is an ll,ooj volt line. Mr Entrican spent considerable time with Mr Innes, borough electrical engineer, regarding the town reticulation in respect to the shifting over from direct to alternating current. ’ Incidentally he stated that the borough would need more 'tower (than had a heady!
