The annual meeting of the Tolaga Bay Jockey Club opened to-day on the Club’s course at Uawa, the weather being ideal. Although the fields in several of the races were small, tho racing was of an interesting nature, and tho finishes exciting. The starter, Mr W. Priestly, dispatched the fields with good judgment, and the secretary, Mr 11. E. Dodd, performed his duties in an efficient manned. There was a large attendance. Be suits are:— MAIDEN SCURRY, of £0 sovs; second horse to receive 15 sovs from stake. For horses that have never won a race exceeding 15 sovs. in value. Minimum weight Bst. Distance 5 furlongs. Dendone, from an evenly dispatched start, struck out and kept ahead all the way, winning from Sign by a length, Ladv Flash being two lengths away third. General Carrington was fourth, and Heather Light last. Time, lmin 4^secs.

Orawia got a length in front of Demlone and Jovial a furlong after the start. At the back turn the three were on even terms, hut before entering the home turn jovial was a length in front of Orawia. Once hi the straight Orawia again showed out, with Demlone falling back. In an exciting finish Jovial just managed to gain the decision bv a bare head from Orawia. Demlono was five lengths behind the first two. Time, 1.17 1-5. The totalisator figures for the first two l’aces to-day show an increase of £lOl6, as compared with the same two races last meetimr (£982 on the first race and £IOB9 on the second race). .
