DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE'S PROTEST TO
MINISTER.
In accordance jivith the resolutions carried at yesterday's meeting of the East Coast Railway Development League, the secretary, Mr. Bayly, to-day dispatched the following telegram to the Minister of Public Works (Hon. J. G. Coates):
"(1) Influential meeting this day, East Coast Railway Development League, folTmviritf resolutions were passed: "That this meeting demands that adequate sum* b'e immediately expended both on the East Coast Main Trunk railway from Gisborne southwards, and on the East Coast Main Trunk road; (2) that this meeting strongly protests against small amounts of money, on estimates for the East Coast road and railway; ask yon to redeem promise made during visit in June that you would give, this district good metalled roads from East Coast to Napier; also that work on the railway would be gone on with as speedily as possible.' "
A request, for. support wns telegraphed both to Mr. W: I). Lysnar. M.P. ."and Mr. K. S. Williams, M.K, couched in tlie following terms:—
"Large meeting East Coast Railway Development League to-day; strongly protesting against, .small amounts for roads and railways this district, asked that adequate sums be expended upon both this summer. Telegraphed Minister. Request your assistance."
