FOOTBALL.

SOCCER, REP. TEAM

At the weekly meeting of the management committee of the Poverty Bay Association Football Club last night, Mr'(). Buscke presided over a good attendance. The selectors presented the team chosen to represent Poverty Bay in the Brown Shield matches, and the committee decided to accept the list as final. It was' resolved that each member of the rep. j team must pay £1 towards his fare to Christchurch or Wellington, wherever the competition is held. The team is as follows: Goal, Watson (Waipaoa); full-backs, right, Wallace (Waipaoa), left, Gardner (Y.M.); halfbacks, Hanna (Gisborne), P. Roots (Hovers), centre, captain, Tvfrkness (Gisborne; Forwards, Shelton (Waipaoa), Third. (Gisborne), Kelly (Gisborne),! Shields (Gisborne), Downio (Taruheru). I Reserves: Sharp (Taruheru). and Livingston (Taruheru). j Tho selectors were Messrs F. 11. War-! ner, H. Forster, and A. M. McMullin. j The draw for Saturday next was as follows: Taruheru v. Gisborne, on the I Domain, Mr Bigger referee ; Waipaoa v. ' Young M.en, at Waipaoa, no referee appointed yet. The importance of this district sending a rep. team to compete for the Brown Shield was mentioned to a Herald representative by a prominent enthusiast. Formerly Poverty Bay had not come in for any recognition as a soccer centre, and when any outside team visited the Dominion Gisborne was overlooked. By competing for the Shield the Poverty Bay district will receive consideration in this direction in tho future. The local lads could be. relied upon to give a good account of themselves. One of the selectors stated that the selected team comprised some of the best material he had come in contact with iu New Zealand. The following will represent the Gisborne Club, against Taruheru on Saturday: Hird, Sutcliffe. McKav, Lee, Hanna, McPherson, McMullin, Shields, Kelly, Third. Hewitson; reserves, Waugh, Duncan and another.
