A conference of representatives of various local' bodies and organisations xri the district to discuss the questioner light railways between Tauranga and the Waikato was heldi on Saturday last. There was a good attendance, inch\din,g Messra.yH. Southey (Tauranga Qou.o.ty chairman.), ft. I£in ff (chairman of the . Tauranga Harbor Board), J, Prage, and B. Q. .yjarke (president and secretary respectively of the Matam.at a Railway Leagye), p. Qraflt (Paengarqa Junptiqnj, and representative of town and country residents. Mr, J..Q. Qreen wa.s voted to th§ chair, Ifc was decided: "That this meeting affirms the principle that the Looal Railways Apt shoujd be amended to allow 2ft gauge railways to he constructed, and Pledges itself to do everything possible m getting the Government to make the amendment; also that all local bodies interested be requested to co-operate." The meeting resolved that the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce be asked to invite the Minister for Public Works 'to meet deputations at some central place to discuss the question of amending the Local Railways Act and other nwtse,rs m connection with light railways.
