A FIERCE GALE.
(Per Press Association.) CAKTERTON, this day. A howling gale with intermittent gusts blowing with hurricane force, was experienced here last, night. Fences, gates, etc., have, been: blown, down, and the side of McPhee's traction engine shed was driven m. The gale still rages, but the fierce gusts are -fewer. There are frequent* showers of heavy rain. The tire brigade was called out during the height of the gale, but fortunately the alarm Avas only m regard to a chimney. •• ■' ■;- v ' •> ■ * ? -.-',. - MASTER-TON,^ this .;,day . \ Masterton was visited last night by' a gale of exceptional violence, the wind reaching the force of a hurricane at times. Considerable damage was done to outbuildings, fences, an£ chimneys. Big trees were uprooted. The gale is still raging.
