AUCKLAND, this day. Discussing the housing problem the Hon. { G. W. YRussell said^lf we are to deal y*ith it m a YfeompreKensive manner we must talk m millions. The question whether the money is to be provided by the Government or by local bodies is a political one that must be fought out at the elections. A statutory enactment gave the municipalities power to erect, workers' homes m cities and boroughs, but no provision has been made for the large body of "workers residing outside municipal boundaries, including men engaged m freezing works, ( dairy factories, and., coal mines. He believed a satisfactory scheme could be evolved. The ideal should be that four or five roomed houses be made available ; at a rental of ten to fifteen shillings w-eelfly. They must not be afraid to face, the great problem iv a bold and courageous manner..
