CLERKLESS STORE REPORTED THRIVING

LEXINGTON, Va, May I.— A store without a clerk, where a customer takes what he wants and deposits money m the cash register m payment himself, is- a unique application of the "honor" system to Washington and Lee University. Run under the auspices of the Young Men's Christian Association, the store is proving a great success, and would seem to serve as n lesson to merchants who feel burdened with overhead expense. Tobacco, oandy, and soft drinks m bottles are the chief articles sold at this store. The price of each article is plainly marked and students sell themselves what they want, with no one to watch for short changers. The scheme has worked for several months.
