CHINA'S GREAT CALAMITY.

It was announced by Major S. L. Norris at a Mansion House meeting that 40,000 square miles of North, China had been flooded for 27 months. No crops could be grown, and about a million of inhabitants died each winter, mainly from starvation.

The Bishop of London said the story, was an appalling one, which had not been heni'd of before because we were busy with our own affairs. He hoped that the fund which was being, raised by Major Norris. whose brother was bishop m the affected area, would be on n, generous scale.
