LEATHER PRICES AND EXPORT

(Special to tbe Herald.) WELLINGTON, this day. Evidently with the view of preventing a further rise in New Zealand footwear owing to the effect of the increased price of hides for export, the Cabinet has decided to continue the prohibition on the export of hides and calf skins imposed by Order-in-Council in April, 1918. Export will only be permitted by the Minister of Customs on terms recommended by the Board of Trade, the most Important stipulation being, that New Zealand^ tanners have- the right to purchase hides and skins at values as requisitioned under the Imperial purchase scheme, making the top price Is Id per pound.
