COMPETITIONS SOGIETY.

♦ A general meeting of the Gisborne Competitions Society was held last evening. There were present : Mrs Lees, Miss Hyett, Messrs E. H. Mann, E. Lees, J. MoKee, T. Carron, L. T. Burnaixl., W. H. Irvine, J. H. Bull, O. F. Margoliouth, V. Han'e, H. H. Feilding, F. J. Rowley and F. R. Ball. Apologies were received from Messrs. M. L. Foster, M. G. Pascoe* J. O. E. Kissling, F. A. Foote, H. H. DeCosta, S C. G. Bloore, R. Cole, and J. A. Nicol.X Mr E. .H. Mann was voted to the chair. The chairman stated that an informal meeting of the old committee had favored reviving the competitions, and had convened the meeting. He had now much pleasure m moving a resolution that the competitions be held this year. 'The motion was seconded by Mr Feilding, and carried unanimously. Officers for the ensuing year were elected l as under : President, Mr 15. H. Mann ; Vice-Presidents, Messrs L. T. Burnard and W. H. Irvine ; committee : Messrs. F. J. Rowley. J. H. Bull, J. Chrisp, R. Cole, V. Harre, J. C. E. Kissling, J. Nicol, T. Mirfield, C. F. Margoliouth. E. Lees, J. McKee, M. G. Phsoo, P. It, Ball, F. A. Foqte, H. H. Feilding; auditor, W. Hamilton Irvine. Mr. E. H. Mann briefly referred to the past work- of- the Society, and expressed his pleasure at the decision of the meeting to revive the competitions. The society was m a good financial position. There was £55 credit balance, and a piano and' a violin had been bequeathed to the society, which should realise approximately £65. A gold medal had already been promised as a prize m the piano section, and jt was expected further prizes would be donated' before the schedule was finally printed. The fixhitt of dates and the appointment of judges, accompanist, etc., weru discussed, bufc definite arrangements were left to the executive committee, which, will meet on Monday, the 1 24 th inst., at 8 p.m.
