Feb. 12. > •-, In the Assembly Colonel Cresswell, Labor leader, moved an amendment to Mr. Smart's motion, -"recognising the £ status of the Union within the British commonwealth secures the people protection and gives powers to deal, with national development, together with security from external dangers. Such status has been accepted by the two white races as a settlement of their racial quarrels. The permanent welfare ;of the peoples demands the unremitting ; attention -of Parliament to domestic, social, and economic problems. Thje House therefore records the convictiQh that; the' present mbvenienfc for abrogation of the Union will unfallibly en- r danger the peace of the community and result in { :continti^a neglect of domestic -Twth, disastrous consequences ' jthe; future y^llbejng.^ :- In?
