COMPOSITION OF PARTIES.
FIGUftESr :ANALYSER - (Australlau and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, Dec. 29. An analysis of the final returns, except one not m, gives the composition of the new House as follows:—-
The estimated v number of non-Coali-tion Liberals varies owing to the Labor party claiming several as practi.cally Laborites but the above analysis is based on the official party label. All the Irish Unionists . are excluded from the above list of Coalition Unionists because the scheme of labelling Coalition / candidates is not applied to Ireland.
i- Of course, Irish Unionists, numbering approximately 27, are expected to support the Government on most matters.
A olose study of , the figures emphasises the Coalition's, pronounced success m every group of constituencies m Britain. In the Londdn boroughs Unionists got 42 and the Liberals 11. Other London representatives are two nonpledged Unionists Sir Norton Griffiths for Central Wandsworth and J. Hopkins for South-east St. Pancras, and three Liberals and isvo Laborites,. neither^ of whom was opposed by the Coalitionists, and one Independent, Horatio Bottom- r ley. '" ,■./■•.■..'■ . i .'•.
Of 193 members " elected ; for other English boroughs, 149 are supporters of the Government, comprising 106 Unionists, 36 Liberals, and 7 Laborites. The remainder are 16 Unionists, 3 Liberals,* 20 Laboritesj 4 Independents, and 1 Irish Nationalist., j ...-■,.,.>.:,, v
In the English Counties there are 191 Coalition members out of a total of 230 seats, the Unionists again forming a large ., majority. ..witfa 149, com*, pared with 40 Liberals and 2 Laborites.~ 'Unpledged Liberals number 12, unpledged Unionists 2, Laborites 22, and Independents 3.
In Wales, 20 Coalitionists were returned out of 35 seats, the others being 10 Laborites, 3 unpledged Unionists, and 2 unpledged Liberals. »
.The Scottish Jwroughs returned 23 Government supporters, namely, 15 jUnipnists, 8 Liberals,, the. remaining ,members' being 5 unpledged Liberals and 5 laaborites^ N :, ,'.; In the Scdti|h counties,. >l3 Unionists and 17 Liberals' were elected under the Coalition banner, others being 2 unpledged Unionists, 3 unpledged Liberals, and" 3 Laborites. .-. : • w . •■', •[ ■■■■
In the Irish boroughs, -8 Unionists; 2 Nationalists, and 11 Sinn Feiners were returned.
