GISBORNE RAC ING CLUB.

The following is the annual report to be presented at the annual meeting of the Gisborne Racing Club, to be held on the 27th inst. : "Your« committee has much pleasure to presenting the annual statement of accounts for the year ending August 31st, 1918. A perusal of the balance-sheet discloses a lo?>---of £564 14s 2d, which is mainly accounted for by donation to Red- Trinnglr Fund £50, depreciation written oft £370. and bad-. debts £72 2s. Owing to the curtailment of racing the summer meeting was , reduced to one ■ day, and this, together with tho absence of special trains and small fields m tlu steeplechases at the winter .meeting' naturally ' resulted m a reduction of revenue. Had not the above unfortunate circumstances occurred, your committee feel certain that a substantial profit for the year would have been thi result. The sum of £1000 has been invested' m the War Loan. The Government received from your club the sum of £2291 12s 4d for taxation m various forms. The totalisator turnover, for the three days was £46,378, ---as compared with £55,992 for four days of the previous season. The grounds and buildings have been well maintained., and are m good order. Great credit b due to the caretaker for the excellent condition of the tracks during race meetings. The amount paid away ii stakes amounted to £3695 for thrct days, as against £4760 for four day/ the previous season,. Tho membershi]. is now 179. In accordance with the rules, Messrs. C. J. Bennett, J. "W. Bright, H. deLautour, G. Matthewson. T. McConnell, and 0. B. Oman have been nominated for the committee. As the number nominated does not exceed the number required, the above-named gentlemen have been duly elected. Your committee wishes to place on record itp thanks and appreciation to Mr. D. J. Barry in^ presenting the cup for the winner of the Gisborne Cup} and of the services of all the honorary officials and permanent staff of the club for the satisfactory manner m which they hayr carried out their duties during the year."
