BOMBING THE ENEMY.
MANY DIRECT HITS
TONS OF BOMBS DROPPED AND GREAT DAMAGE DONE. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, Sept. 15. Sir Douglas Haig reports: — On September 14 we destroyed four machines, also two-seaters on the ground during a successful attack at a low height on an aerodrome south of Lille. Two British machines are missing. We have dropped m the past 24 hours eight tons of bombs. The Air Ministry reports: On the twttlefront, m addition to bombing, we named out the following operations: Twice attacked Metz Sablon, obtaining many direct hits on the railway triangle, workshops, gas works, and barracks; and also attacked Boulay aerodSrome with good results on the night <tf the 14th. We kept up night-long heavy attacks on Metz Sablon, Courgettes, Ehrange, Saarbrucken, Kaiser-
slautern, and the aerodromes at Fresoaty and Boulay, and obtained many direct hits on the railway, especially at Metz Sablon and Courcelles, and caused several fires at Kaiserslautern, Saarbruc'ken, and Frescaty aerodromes. Three British machines did not return.
On the morning of the 15th we again attacked Metz Sablon railway triangle, and scored many direct hits. Eliemy scouts were active. We also bombed Buhl aerodrome. Three British machines are missing.
We also bombed the Daimler works, Stuttgart, on tho 15th with good results. During this raid we encountered twenty hostile machines, of which we destroyed two. All the British returned. We dropped 27 tons of bombs m 24 hours.
