ARE WE DOWNHEARTED?— NO !
LONDON, May A. Mr. Henri Bidou, the distinguished military critic of the Journal des Debats, who has just returned from the front, gave Reuter the most encouraging account of the position. He says that the last time ho visited the front was- just after the capture of Kemmel Hill. He found fiomei gloom at the possible consequences of its loss, but when he returned he was delighted to find a spirit of the utmost confidence among the Allied officers, and men. This resulted from the magnificent manner m which the Germans had been held up. M. Bidou said that Tuesday was a grand day for the Allies, and graver for the Germans than the loss of Ketmmel to the Allies. He concluded by declaring that never before had he seen such real comradeship and mutual esteem between the Allies as since £he beginning of this great battle, when the French and British fought and died together.
