HEAVY ATTACKS EFFECTIVELY DEALT WITH. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association) (Reuter's Telegram.) LONDON, April 5 (10.55 p.m.) A. -WaiY,Olßic*e communique says: — The ' Germans, since" dawn, have delivered heavy attacks south-west of Albert and m the region ' of Noyenneville. The Germans obtained a foothold m our defences at Berancourt and southwest of Albert, but our counter-attack restored the situation at Albert. The enemy heavily shelled our line m the region of Mesnil and Beaumont Hamel. .There was '. some v-infahtry-, fighting at Mesnil, where tne enemy gained no advantage. - We repulsed an attack on Moyerxneviljte. 7*ye attacked south-east of Gommeco*drt, taking 120 prisoners. -*^?he situation is quiet on the British front south, of the-Somme- % ' — *r-.
