In the House of Commons, Mr. Bonar Law, replying to a debate on mercantile shipbuilding, said the essence"^ the matter was that the men actually making ships must realise that the fate of the war lay with them. The Alles wweree c being consulted. He hoped Sir Eric Gcddes on Wednesday would be able tq state the actual tonnage losses. The figures would astonish everyone. Personally, ho thought nothing but good could coirt> from the disclosure. Shipbuilding vas not being retarded for lack of men, who were being brought back from France where necessary.
