HOSPITAL AFFAIRS.

In accordance with hi.s motion, tinChairman (Mr W. (i. SherraW) moved at the Hospital Board meeting- last night. "That the resolution, -of May 22, 1917. asking the Matron to tender her resignation, b>» rescinded." He said he thought it was just as well to rescind the motion, and if a Royal Commission • was held they could act according to whatever tfio decision might bo. In seconding the motion, Mr H. Kenway remarked that it was very desirable that such a stop should be taken. Dr. Collins suggested holding the motion over. The Chairman: Yes. I will hold it over for a month if you like. Dr. Collins : Thanlc you. Mr (5. W. Humphreys: 1 think it has been held over too- long as it is. Mr Keirway : So do I. The Chairman * Well, I have moved the resolution, and it has been seconded. M!r Humphreys thought --it would bo a mistake to defer the matter. . Dr. Collins said it would cause controversy. Certain members were away, and the matter should be considered by a full meeting. He did not think there was any pressing need for the matter to go through that night.

-■The Chairman : Will you move something? Dr. Collins : Yes, I will move that the matter -be held over for !i full meeting of. the Board. Mr Kenway : As seconder of the motion I 'cannot agree to that. I think the thing has been held over too long. It 19 not fair to those concerned that it should be held m aibeyance. Mi Ci. E- Jones seconded the amendment. He said four members were absent, and he agreed, that it was necessary thei Board shoiild be unanimous on this question. Dr. Collins : . Could this have been brought on before the meeting? The. Chairman : No ; I gave notice of motion a>t last meeting. Dt% Collins: Then the matter has not been held over. I again respectfully ask that it -be allowed to stand over 'until a fuller meeting. We neither want to pass- a resolution to rescind 1 what might be passed to-night, nor to leave the meetißejwithout a. quorum. The Chairman : You ask that it be held over? Dr. Collins : Yes, until at least members Lysnar and Holden are . present. These members, he said, should be given an opportunity of expressing an. opinion. The Chairman said he would ask his seconded to allow the motion to stand over." Mr Keiwrav : No. sir; I cannot do that. . Dr. Collins (rising) : Very well, we wfll, leave the meeting witiiout a quorum, or give notice of motion to rescind. The Chairman said he was Milling to hold it over. *Mr Humphreys said there was no necessity for members to leave their chairs. They could have settled it lasfc meeting 'by suspending the standing orders, as was suggested then. . The Chairman : It could not have been done last meeting; the standing orders do hot allow for it. , Mr Humphreys : Yes, they do; you read them. The Chairman : Th-eri the v " are different from others. Me asked if any other members wished to speak before he put tlie motion. Dr. Collins said if to pleaso Mr Kenway they were not going to> extend justice to absent members, he and Mr Jones must leave their chairs m order to give them a chance.

Dr. Collins left his ohair, and Mr Jones was about to do the same, thus leaving the meeting without a quorum, when thd Chairman said he would withdraw iihe motion. Dr. Collins (resuming his seat) : Thank you,, sir. The Chairman : And it will come up at next meeting. Mr Humphreys: I don't see how yau can do that without the consent of your seconder. . The Chairman ; I think it is m order. Mr Kenway: I doubt very much that ruling, but I am prepared to bow to it. , Mr Humphreys : What is going to^ happen? Dr. ' Collins : We are going on with the next business. Mr Humphreys : Is that motion going to be wi thdrawn ? The Chairman: Yes. Mr Humphreys jumped up and left liis, chair, remarking: "That's enough for me." When passing' out, he said : '"'E!xcuse'm© for going, but I can't stop af ter that." ■ The next business was then proceeded with.
