The. most striking feature of a brief )'eportr by -the .Chapman of the Land Purchase ' Commissioners is that stating, present extreme prices ruling for aAL produce, v there ia little prospect of values of land receding; therefore some simpler hut still effective method may be necessary to enable the Department to provide land for soldiers at a rental they can areasoiuibly be expected to pay. The "report showed that 795 properties, with an area of 984,788 acres, were considered, a. great increase on previous years. A large nuiribsr were quite unsuitable, while prices m many instances were quite exorbitant. The purchases comprised 60,140 acres, of the value of £595,419. A further 22,862 acres were bein# secured, and the supply was noAv well ahead of demand.
