SEVENTY BIG SHIPS LOST MONTHLY.
(United Service.) LONDON, August 31. The Daily Mail says submarines are still the master problem of the war and losses are almost 70 big ships monthly, revealing that we are barely holding our own at most severe cost. The Times' engineering supplement comments on-.the Joss of 825, vessels and says "half a : year's. rtithlessness represents aboitt Qnei-ei'ghlhvof our mercantile -fleet. The average-' s-fee- of • the vessels," lost* was 3776 tons, excluding 149 fishing vessels.
