TRENCH SAFETY DEVICES.

NEW INOCULATION THAT MIGHT

HAVE WON GALLIPOLI.

LONDON, March 18. c

Inventions for the protection of our trooops were exhibited by Dr. Saleeby at the "Royal Institution, b*y permission of the Ministry of Munitions.

They were proof, he said, against shrapnel and bayonets. Tlie steel used for helmets would not splinter, and tho helmets were proof against shrapnel at any angle. Violent blows from a poker held m both hands could do the wearer no harm. Each helmet weighed only 21b. 6oz.

Dr. Saleeby said we owed <to Sir Almroth Wright the wonderful conquest of typhoid fever. According- to statistics supplied on Saturday by the DirectorGeneral of the Medical Service, the death ratio among those not inoculated m France and Belgium up to December 22 had been 65 times greater than among those who were inoculated.

Had a certain inoculation been known of and used during the Gallipoli campaign, ths history of that , campaign might have been different.
