TREACHERY OF THE KING.

SURROUNDED BY PRO-GERMAN COTERIE.

f Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.)

LONDON, May 1. Messages from Athens report an ex traordinary condition of affairs.

Probably M. Zaimis will accept the Premiership at the King's urgent request, m .the hops of appeasing the Allies. It is stated that M. Zaimis proposed to offer a portfolio to the Venizelists.

The rumors were telegraphed to M. Venizelos, who replied that it was impossible for King Constantine to remain, as his position is well known m Entente circles. King Constantine is surrounded by a pi*o-Gei*man coterie.

It has been suggested that the Allies should exile Dousmanis, Gounaris, Skouloudis, and other plotters, but it is considered doubtful if pro-German influence would thereby be eliminated, as it is almost certain that others would take their places around the King. The palace is a regular rendezvous of German officers, and General Falkenhayn visits the King constantly, secretly traversing a neutral zone.

Other German officers bring money from Germany for the reservists, who recenltlv received £2000.

Secret stoi-es of ammunition continue to be found, and other stores are known to exist.

General Dousmanis, who is still a pro-German aroh-oonspirator, said recently : "Don't abandon hope. We are still m the saddle. . England has not decided definitely against us yet."
