The; local Salvation ArmtjrJield a memorial service last evening •m memory of Salvationists and others, who - have fallen at the front. The opening service at 6 o'clock wart led by Sergeant-: Mtjor Dowdle, the band being by the Boy Scouts; each bearing a- flag of the different nations. The band rendered appropriate music ; also playihjr ."The Dead March." The procession from ' Lowe street to Whinray's hall •was headed b y the Scouts, and the band again played "The Dead March" at Whinray's" hall. A large congregation gathered for the memorial service. The band, standing, played '"Bath • Abbey" ; then the National Anthem, as the Scouts again lined on to the platfoiim, each stvll' carrying the flags of the nations. The service was solemn and. of a very in-spiring nature. Captain Atherfold prayed on behalf of the -vyidows; mothers and ' childiaß*-, and Bandmaster ySteiri prayed on Behalf of the chaplain soldiers. \vqunded and well. After "Th©- Dead March" had again been .played . by the band, Adjutant Holman paid a touching /tribute to the fallen. His Bible -address was taken fr6m,"l Samuel, 31st chapter, Bth verse. His address right through was of a very interesting and inspiring nature. One touching? incident mention--e&y/out of, the many, wasi that 1 of a vojing soldier who had written home to 'his mother, stating how they had come to ■a' village, and there found a woman with all her hair cut off and breasts cut o#, and kow he stated "we are poing into a bog hattl*!, and if I had 100 Jives 'aftpr .' what I have seen I . would give them all." Three days afterwards he ivis killed. 'The adjutant dealt with (some force on the necessity of our nation being inspired by God and upholding the gallant men -who are fighting ana dying. for a just cause.
