THE PICTURE HOUSES.
The Palace Pictures management have securedl the Gisborne rights for what promises to bo the most successful serial picture yet produced. Coming as it does, from the xelebrated Universal studios, whence came. "Peg o" the .Ring." "Lucille Love,", and many other productions i that havo met with the greatest success, j*'Greed" is said to easily, eclipse them all. It is the vividly pictured drama of the fight of a. puny coterie against a gigantic preponderant syndicate of criminal, .greedy, grasping fiends, bent on the plunder of the masses. And the tiny fighters win. , That is the success germ of! "Greed." Right wrecks might. The theme is developed on most ; unusual lines, and it is packed tightly with novel surprises. Many of the sensational events portrayed have been planned by master minds, and there is action enough to please the most blaso of picture-goers. There is an appealing love, interest that lilts daintily through a story of cunning intrigue and titanic struggles of desperate men. Special arrangements have been made whereby "Greed" will be shown at Saturday's matinee, commencing Saturday next, and it will also be screened on Mondays and Tuesdays.
The brilliant new programme to be screened at the World's Pictures to-night is headed by the great Lasky superfilm.. '.'The Golden Chance," featuring Wnllace Reid and Cleo Ridgely. The outstanding feature of this fine picture is the artistic excellence of the produc tlon. Many people who have seen this absorbing drama once have gone again for the pure enjoyment of its quality. The play is splendidly mounted and dressed, and the acting throughout is of a very high standard. "The Golden Chance" tells the story of a young wife who is tied to a drunken nc'ei'-do-well, and who has to earn a living as a dressmaker at a fashionable modiste's. The hostess of a fashionable dinner party, short of a guest, selects the young wife to fill the vacant chair, and while a millionaire falls m love with her, her husband. unknown to her, breaks into the house. A happy chance relieves her of the incubusr-her husband is shot m an encounter with the police, and her mllitonajre lover claims, her Ipr his wife.
