BANK SENSATION.
MAX WALKING OFF WITH £720.
SYDNEY, Feb. 20. The Government Savings Bank, King street-, Nowtown, was the scene of a sensational occurrence about 12.30 a.m. Just at that time there was a large crowd m the bank, and a lady noticed a man leaving hurriedly with .a bundle of notes m his hand, some of which he dropped and did not stop to pick up. She concluded that as he showed no interest m tho money he was dropping she should inform the bank officials. The latter overtook the man m the street about 200 yards from the bank. One of them engaged him m conversation, while another informed Sergeant McAtamney, who was standing some distanoe away.
When the sergeant arrived, the man was still talking to the other bank official. Asked if he had any money, he replied "No.'" When searched, the sum of £710 m notes was found on him. The notes he had dropped on the floor tottdlod £10.
Subsequently Joseph Ryan (51) was brought before the Court and charged with stealing £720, the property of the Government Savings Bank of New South Wales. llf> was remanded, bail being refused.
