"TANKS" TO THE RESCUE.
HELPED NEW ZEALAND RIFLES TO A HUNDRED PRISONERS. How a trio of "tanks" came to the resell,*? of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade m their advance, on Flers last month idescribed by Mr. Malcolm Ross, the war correspondent, m an article issued by Sir Thomas Mackenzie, the High Commissioner :— The Flers line consisted of a fire and n support trench, both heavily protected by barbed wire! On the right some of the wire remained unbroken, and tho German machine gunners got to work and held up our men. At this juncture, most opportunely, three of thg "tanks" arrived. One, peppered by rifle and machine-gun fire, sidled sateiy off to the left, another crunched through the wire and soon silenced the machine-guns protecting Flers trench. Some riflemen were then able to get into the trench, where p hundred prisoners wiere quickly gathered m.
