THE WAR LOAN.
THE LOCAL RESPO'NISE.
Inquiries instituted to-day respecting Gisboine's response to the Government war loan indicate that the interest of jo j;il investors is being .aroused ' m tho matter and it is hoped that when applications close it will bo found that a fairly penerons response, has been made frorii this essentially rich and prosperous district. Several investments v I -a generous nature ha.ye been made ;nid more particularly by residents of .moderate means. Information received fionv Auckland indicates that considerable interest is being taken m the subject and that other investments are bei'sy disposed of to enable the holders to participate m the war loan, vvhioli is regarded as an excellent invtstment for large sums of money. The special ''feature about the loan is the fact that the investment is free of taxation, and that' there is no difficulty of reinvestment for -a further term of four years. Apart from tli£ patriotic nature of the appeal and the fact that it is the' duty of all patriots to assist the country's couse, it wiis pointed out to a. ..Herald ■representative .to-day that there is also a commercial aspect to the qiiestion, f' 11 ' m tlio event of the loan not being fully subscribed, it would he necassary 'or the Government to resort to increased taxation.
